While the dybbuk seems to have been thoroughly debunked (the latest being that Rav Chaim Kanievsky has dismissed it as a mental case), or dismissed, the effect on kids hadn't.
While it makes for a good case to teach children a lesson in not believing everything they hear, it might not be the best idea in every case.
Iv'e now seen in online forums people discussing having their kids waking up in the middle of the night due to nightmares.
What's your solution?

Sure. IIRC, it was last week's Mishpacha magazine in Hebrew. I'll try to upload a copy soon.
It was in the newspaper part of the Msihpacha Hebrew.
It said that R' Chaim ridiculed the dybbuk/show.
It was already discarded so I cannot post a scan. Sorry.

was there any indication that he had previously approved of it. the first reports had it that he had looked it up in a sefer and confirmed that this was indeed a dybbuk, though later on, on another post, some commenters said that all he did was give a referral to rav shteinman (or maybe it was directly to rav batzri)... was any of that correct, such that this was a change once new evidence came to light, or was it made up from the get-go?

I'd tell my kids "there's no such thing as a dybbuk". I don't need a rabbi to tell me that.

I heard of the two versions you write about earlier as well.
I gave them little credence since the gossipers always create a R' Chaim Kanievsky angle to the story to make it appear more credible; so when I laugh it off, I get a "R' Chaim said so, you kofer. :)
Personally, when I see R' Chaim's name in a story, it increases my disbelief. Not because of him, of course.
