Problems With "Jewish" Music

I'm not coming here to discuss the state of Jewish music today, nor to give an opinion on listening to non-Jewish music either.

But balant ripoffs done wrong is one thing. Who knows, maybe they even got permission. I don't think so; but I'll give them a pass.

But in some cases, they're makpid not to have any woman sing; kol isha, you know, yet the tone they sing with and the crechtzing they do is worse. Far worse. Real stylistic shirei agovim if there ever was any.

When they do both I go ballistic.

I just saw on another blog details that show this to have happened. I will not name the blog or the offensive artist at the moment, as I see no need to.

I am all against this type of problem solving, but we shouldn't condone such depravity. AFAIK, boycotts are are still a usually-legitimate form of stating opinions in a meaningful way.
