Shas Party Joins World Zionist Organization

In a surprising move, the Shas party in Israel, headed by Chacham Ovadia Yosef, today joined the World Zionints Organization as a full member on all programs.

This entailed changing the Shas charter as well.

This will give strong credence to these Chareidim who always claimed that Shas doesn't espouse a Chareidi viewpoint.

While Shas is strongly traditional, they always had a core group of Sephardi Chereidim as supporters. For them, this move is a clear reminder as to where the party's views are moving.

I always find it interesting how each respecting side of Judaism slowly moves further away from each other, while in other respects they come closer.
